From a Dotted Mask to a Masterpiece
I am a 12th grade English and Creative Writing teacher. I have posted an activity that I do in my Creative Writing classes that invites students to be imaginative in an artistic sense. What they draw based on a very simple drawing of a dotted mask--eyes and nose--leads them to respond with a creative piece of writing--a poem, a dramatic monologue, a scene from a play, a short narrative, or any other form of creative writing inspired by the students' drawings. Attached is the dotted mask drawing that serves as a springboard for this assignment. First, seven images follow the simple drawing that show what students have done artistically. In a second post you will find additional images with writings completed by the artists themselves.
